TO THE MAX
Go all-out glamour with a floor-sweeping maxi dress in soft, peachy tones.
A day at the races offers the opportunity to dress up, sip champagne and have a flutter on the horses. Most races are fairly relaxed about what you wear to enjoy the day, however, if you’re attending Royal Ascot the rules are little tighter.
Despite this, they’re not as strict as you might think, so let us run you through the considerations when planning your outfit.
If you’re in the Royal Enclosure then your dress or skirt should be just above the knee or longer, dresses and tops should have straps of one-inch or greater and matching trouser suits may be worn but must be full-length.
You can cover up with a jacket, but what’s underneath must comply with the rules. Hats or head pieces must be worn (with a base of 4 inches or more in diameter), but fascinators are no-no.
Also avoid bare midriffs as well as strapless, off-the-shoulder and spaghetti strap dresses and tops.
Things are a little more relaxed in the Grandstand, where fascinators are allowed, trousers may be worn and the same jacket rule applies. Just steer clear of strapless or sheer strap dresses and tops.
We suggest soft colours, or one bold hue (blue, white etc…) and feminine shapes on dresses – then finish your look with a relaxed blazer and chic accessories. Or, piece together stylish separates for a more casual approach.
Everything you see in our feature is perfect for a day at the races, so just choose your hat accordingly, and you’re ready to place your bets.
