As the sun sets (metaphorically speaking, of course) on another season, attention turns towards what new styles, trends and fabrics are on the radar for the coming one. That in-between period of summer and autumn can be tricky to navigate, but the first step to getting it right is to understand exactly what trans-seasonal dressing is about.

Essentially, it’s the new pieces that arrive in store and online to freshen up your wardrobe during that period. Usually not trend-led, they err more on the side of new staples, the building blocks that subtly resonate with the season ahead. Placing the Reiss man at the heart of city living – in New York, no less – our trans collection reflects the change needed to successfully set up your style for AW18.

Fresh Prints

While pastels and bright whites may rule the warm-weather style directive, muted options indicate change and movement. A darker take on florals ensures the printed shirt stays relevant to the time. Size matters and the move to downscale on the oversized trend makes for a more interesting print, while pops of white and blue colours keeps things fresh. Slightly undone to reveal a crisp white T underneath nods to A/W layering – although if this current heatwave is anything to go by…

Strictly Business

A checked suit’s ability to command attention and evoke success is undisputable and for the new season the classic grey check print has been refreshed with hints of blue to bring a new dimension to a wardrobe classic. Complement the blue tones with a light, bright shirt and opt for darker-coloured accessories to capture the best of both seasons ahead of AW18.

The New Leather Jacket

A perennial style favourite and a key essential for downtime dressing with flair, the leather jacket has been given a clean redesign ahead of autumn’s arrival. A move away from the classic biker form, this updated garm has greater versatility and enough verve to quickly become your go-to throw-on for those weekends where a casual aesthetic is best. Nod to summer by pairing it with a striped top while dark-wash jeans suggest an upcoming change.

A Shade Of Suede

If you are only to buy one new jacket to carry you through the mid-season, make it a suede one. The oversized bomber style suede jacket was omnipresent in the Nineties as the tough guy style staple – Bruce Willis’ tan jacket in “Pulp Fiction”, for example. Now, though, it has earned its merits as the subtle and laid-back cool brother of the leather jacket thanks to a sleeker, modern design. Look to mushroom-khaki colours for that autumnal vibe.

Sweater Weather

Current freak temperatures aside, a jumper is one of those essentials you’ll revisit time and again throughout a season. The classic crew neck is ideal for throwing on over a T during those weekend evenings spent in a beer garden, or over a shirt during those breezy morning commutes and lunchtime ventures outside during the weekdays. As a colour, camel has made a big impact in menswear, particularly in coats, so the camel jumper smoothly sets up the transition to a change in seasons.
