Eight things to do in London for Thanksgiving

1. The Jones Family Project

For a taste of traditional Thanksgiving, The Jones Family Project in Shoreditch is launching a themed menu from the 23-25th November. From roast turkey with the Jones’ special Thanksgiving stuffing and buttermilk mash to a mouth-watering pecan pie, no stone is left unturned in delivering the authentic holiday feast. Priced at £35 for the three courses or £70 with drinks included – we recommend the latter for their Bad Apples cocktail alone – if you find yourself stuck for dinner over the weekend, don’t miss this one.

2. Bunga Bunga

For a more eclectic and vibrant Thanksgiving experience, Bunga Bunga is bringing all-American style to its Battersea location. Offering up an Italian-inspired American menu, including turkey breast Milanese, Bunga ribs served with a Jack Daniel’s Honey sauce, a Thanksgiving pizza topped with roasted turkey and Jack Daniel’s BBQ glaze and a pecan tartlet with Italian vanilla ice cream, this is the ultimate festive feast. Alongside the food, there will be a five-piece band belting out Stateside classics as well as a karaoke battle. For anyone in need of some courage, the Jack Daniel’s cocktails – including the Tennessee Trippin’ (Jack Daniel’s Old No.7, creme de mure, fresh lemon juice and pineapple syrup) – will leave you gunning for control of the mic.

3. THATMuse festive feast Treasure hunt

If you’re in the mood for a more activity-based Thanksgiving weekend, from 25th November the V&A will become a playground for a festive-themed treasure hunt (£11.50) courtesy of THATMuse. In teams of four, you will have just over one hour to find all the accoutrements of a feast. Expect to burst into song and pose for a photograph in a fashion that’s going to provoke stares in order to complete the check list. A prize-giving will follow for all the teams involved.

4. Skylon

On 23rd November, Thanksgiving is diving head first onto London’s Southbank, where renowned restaurant Skylon plans to epitomise the American dream with a delicious four-course tasting menu (£65) dedicated to all things Thanksgiving. Seasonal turkey roulade with sweet potatoes, carrots and turkey sauce alongside an irresistible pumpkin panna cotta with meringue and gingerbread (above) will be set against the stunning backdrop of the panoramic views of the Thames. It’s the perfect American feast for those after a memorable culinary experience.

5. HipChips

If you’re not after a heavy meal but still want to indulge in Thanksgiving, head to HipChips - London’s first chip-and-dip café - on Old Compton Street for some delicious hand-made crisps and fresh dips. For Thanksgiving, they’ve played on the traditional elements of the meal, from cranberry sauce to pecan and pumpkin pie, to introduce cinnamon-dusted crisps served with Cranberry, Cheese & Pecan and Pecan Pie & Crème Fraiche dips.

6. The Imaginarium at Hunter Penrose

Putting the “Thanks” back into “Thanksgiving”, The Imaginarium will be hosting a soul-food feast on 22nd November alongside a rare opportunity to experience the richness of Native-American culture through live music, ancient stories and healing vibrations from flutist Andrew Begay of the Dine tribe. Proceeds from the night will also be donated to three charities, including Stand With Standing Rock.

7. Dickie’s Bar at Corrigan’s

Celebrate the blessing of the harvest with cocktails and bites inspired by the Thanksgiving season. Using ingredients from Richard Corrigan’s Virginia Park Lodge in Cavan, Ireland, the special cocktails will be paired with pumpkin croquettes. For those after a softer Thanksgiving, Dickie’s Bar has produced its own pumpkin sodas (although we recommend going all in and ordering the bourbon version) for a sophisticated approach to the weekend’s festivities.

8. GOAT

For something a little different, head to GOAT at Chelsea where a three-course Thanksgiving meal (£35) is followed by a knees-up barn dance in the upstairs Saloon. Indulge in butternut squash soup, turkey with green chilli cornbread stuffing and, of course, a pumpkin pie dessert. For drinks, expect bourbon-infused cocktails. The Saloon will be kitted out with bales of hay and a country and western DJ, so start dusting up on Dolly Parton and Don Mc Lean’s “American Pie” for a proper ol’ hoedown.
