Britain’s beloved everyday footwear brand was founded when brothers Cyrus and James Clark began creating rugs from sheepskin, in Somerset. 

Three years into production, James shifted his focus beyond the norm. He was set on futureproofing both the business and the environment, by using sheepskin cut-offs to craft new slippers.  

It was this conservation measure and desire to adapt which saw the first Clarks Originals shoes hit the market.

Since establishing their presence in the industry, they’ve grown to be a cult favourite. Their wide product range is designed to accommodate every stage in life, starting with the perfect first fit.  

In the early 1940s, company director John Bostock developed a new foot measuring system for children, to ensure their first Clarks Originals experience was as comfortable and practical as possible. 

It’s this innovation which put Clarks Originals a step ahead of other footwear retailers. That, and their continued commitment to sustainability, as laid out in their ‘Every Move Matters Manifesto’. This is an advisory panel set out to drive inclusivity and deliver progressive targets, whilst maintaining the high-quality finish that Clarks Originals has become synonymous with.
