A breath of fresh air, we’re stripping things back and toning things down as autumn approaches.
As much as we love the summer season and all its bold colour and print, there’s something incredibly refreshing about stripping everything back, toning things down and approaching the change in seasons with a clean slate.
A black, white and grey colour palette, subtle prints, soft textures and simple styling sum up our Modern Femininity trend. Almost more of a state of mind than a trend for our designers this season, it signals a change in pace and feels like that much-needed wardrobe cleanse we crave before autumn touches down.
Garments created around this mood are easy to understand and go towards building a wardrobe of timeless pieces. Feminine silhouettes are the crux of the season with staple items re-assessed and subtly re-worked by looking at detailing and fabrics.
You’ll find modern parachute cottons, pure silks, fine knits and double-faced crepe in black or white punctuated with hints of soft grey, inky blue or off-white. Those with a penchant for colour needn’t worry though; you’ll also find elements of rose, absinthe, duck egg blue and lilac as part of the trend.
The trick to getting this look right is to seek out the simplest pieces and either lightly layer them playing with texture – silk on leather, knits with tailoring and prints on block colour – or by letting key pieces speak for themselves; i.e. two-tone jumpsuits, frill hem dresses and floral print denim.
If things are feeling a little stark, pull it back with a little feminine styling; a dangerously-low un-buttoned silk shirt, a soft fuzzy knit pulled off one shoulder and team all your looks with simple, single strap sandal – the only heel to be seen in this autumn.
Keep it simple, keep it clean and you’ll walk into the new season feeling like a new woman.
