WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS YEAR

03.01.13

2012 was a year of big events. From the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games in England, to the presidential election in the United States, it appears that 2013 has big shoes to fill. Although it may seem that we're in for a more low key year in comparison to the one we've just had, there's still plenty to look forward to. Here's a round up of some of the best upcoming films, music and events of 2013...

Films

1. This May, the blockbuster we've all been waiting for is finally being released. Baz Luhrmann's adaption of The Great Gatsby will see Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire take on the spirit of the Roaring Twenties in style. Do. Not. Miss.

2. If May seems too far away, another film we're extremely excited about this year is jOBS. The autobiographical film is based around the life of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who will be played by Ashton Kutcher. The film is set to close the Sundance Film Festival on the 27th of this month.

3. For a film that the whole family will enjoy this year, look no further than Oz the Great and Powerful. Scheduled for release on March the 8th, the story is set before Frank Baum's novel and the1939 film The Wizard Oz. Visually stunning, this movie will bring some classic characters from the past into the modern world.

Music

1. In pop music, Lady Gaga is set to make her big return this spring with her new album ARTPOP. The "Born This Way" global superstar has big plans for the new release, including two separate volumes, a documentary film and a "multimedia app."

2. Indie fans, keep your eyes and ears peeled for brand new music from art rock band, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Although the new album's title has yet to be revealed, we can expect new music from the New York trio by spring.

3. If you're after new music from an old favourite, U2 fans should "certainly expect" a new album this year. The sound of the record will undoubtedly be new too with rumored collaborations with will.i.am and Danger Mouse.

Events

1. We still have to wait another year for the FIFA World Cup to kick off in Brazil, but you can keep your thirst for sport satisfied this year with the 100th Tour de France. Running from Saturday June 29th to Sunday July 21st, the cycling event will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,360 kilometres across France.

2. All you foodies out there will be pleased to know that Taste of London is set to return this summer at Regent's Park. Featuring some of the best chefs, restaurants and wine masterclasses, the show will return from the 20th to the 23rd of June this year.

3. Fear not Glastonbury fans, the iconic festival will make its triumphant return this summer. Although no acts will be confirmed until nearer the time, everyone from Daft Punk, Adele, the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Radiohead are rumored to perform. We'll be more than happy if even one of these fantastic acts play this summer.
