TOP TIPS FOR HOSTING A NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY

28.12.15

With Christmas behind us and the beginning of January fast approaching, now’s the time to think about that New Year’s Eve party that you promised to host. Cast roast dinners and a mountain of wrapping paper out of your mind and follow our top tips for making sure the preparation goes smoothly and the night itself is one to remember.

1. PLAN AHEAD

When sending out invites, consider the guest list. Adding the number of a local taxi firm or forwarding it on the day will make a thoughtful touch and allow guests to book in advance to beat the mad post-midnight rush. Stock up on as much food and drink as possible beforehand so that you can plan and prep accordingly and won’t feel stressed on the day.

2. KEEP THE FOOD SIMPLE

After an avalanche of festive food and indulgent dinners over the Christmas period, it’s generally considered perfectly acceptable to go light when it comes to New Year’s Eve nibbles. This may come as an especially welcome notion to those who have hosted the previous week. Canapes and small bites will accompany the night in elegant style – but perhaps consider a more hearty breakfast if you have people staying the night.

3. FINE-TUNE YOUR PLAYLIST

Catering to your audience as well as the occasion may prove to be more complex than it sounds, so start prepping your playlist a few days in advance to avoid adding panic fillers that will only get skipped past on the night. Look to the Reiss festive playlist for inspiration and add some old classics to get everyone in the party spirit.

4. ADD DETAILED TOUCHES

It’s the little extras that will give your night that memorable edge, so place the attention in the detail when prepping in advance. Simple additions will make a lasting impression, so invest in a set of sparklers for midnight, give your guests a parting gift in the form of a mini champagne bottle or a similarly relevant token and leave mini toiletries in the guest bedrooms to ensure they have everything they need.

5. CONSIDER THE DRINKS MENU

For an elegant reception that’s perfectly suited to New Year’s Eve, welcome your guests with a sparkling champagne cocktail. This Raspberry Mint recipe is easy to make, delicious and wonderfully festive all at once. Stay true to the tradition by popping the champagne to toast midnight and consider fine wine alternatives for the hours in between.
