If New Year's Eve seems like an age away and planning for the event has been side-lined in lieu of Christmas celebrations, now may be the time to start thinking about how best to see in the start of 2016. For those keen to forego the house and dinner party invites and spend it in the capital, there’s still time to book something a little more special. Our list of top 5 events in London will ensure you raise a glass and make it a midnight to remember.

THE TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION: THE FIREWORKS

London’s famous fireworks have long since been a traditional way to welcome the new year, and for the second time, viewers will have the opportunity to buy a £10 ticket to secure a good viewing spot. The smartest way to avoid the all-day wait, ticket holders will be positioned along the Southbank and towards Temple tube station in time for the midnight spectacular. If you’re one to think outside the box, The Midnight Ball at Bourne & Hollingsworth could be exactly what you’re looking for come New Year’s Eve. With a black tie dress code and the option to wear a mask should you want to take the theme to a new level, this is sure to be an evening of elegance. Live performances and music will take place in the candelabra-lit grand hall and the venues signature cocktails will be served in an underground bar. With tickets priced at £60 for general admission and £90 for an additional cocktail and canape reception, this attainable event is set to be a night to remember.

THE INDULGENT CELEBRATION: SKY BAR

If you’re planning to go all out this New Year’s Eve, Sky Bar is set to host a celebration to remember. Positioned at the top of the Millbank Tower with a 360 degree view of London, it’s perfect for city-dwellers and visitors alike. Each ticket is priced at £350 and, alongside the party, includes a welcome Bellini, food from a host of international stalls and a glass of champagne to toast the start of 2016. THE CASUAL CELEBRATION: COMEDY CLUB

For a night of guaranteed laughs, the Comedy Store at Piccadilly Circus is our venue of choice. An entertaining show whatever night of the year you go, this is a strong choice if you want to be in central London for New Year’s Eve but don’t fancy a club night, and is equally as great if you want to avoid the classic frivolities, as you’ll be tucked away enjoying the show. There are two performances throughout the night, so either get there early to enjoy the evening and head out to a bar in time for midnight, or opt for the 9.30pm showing to make it the main event. Tickets are available at 6:00pm for £29 and 9:30pm for £49. 

THE CLUB NIGHT CELEBRATION: BARRIO CENTRAL

There’s never a dull night at Barrio, and what better time to head to the central London Soho branch than on New Year’s Eve? Seeing in 2016 with an event that promises to bring its attendees a taste of Brazil, it mixes South American-themed rituals with London’s traditional festivities. (Get set for a live samba show and a shower of confetti at midnight). Carnival masks are a must and the dress code spells out ‘Samba Chic’ or ‘Traditional White’. The best part? Happy hour lasts until 10pm and your £20 ticket will include a welcome drink.
