Something of a perennial summer trend, white is always on hand to heat up our wardrobes when the sun begins to shine, and this summer is no exception. Here, we talk through why we're wearing white right now.

Why wear white?

If the early arrival of our luxurious white pieces is anything to go by, our designers and merchandisers knew we would be craving the crispest of colours right now - and wouldn't be content with waiting until the height of summer. This non-colour (actually) underpins our own core palette this season, and we've also spotted it on the catwalks, on blogs and on the street, so the trend has been bubbling away since we welcomed in 2014, and is totally ready to wear.

What's inspired us?

Our design team was inspired by the golden era of the Riviera while designing the SS14 collection, so the 1950s and '60s and its bohemian, sophisticated crowd, which conjures up images of glamorous women wrapped in bed sheets or beach towels, bathing in all-white tubs in their diamonds or wearing white dresses against bronzed skin in a lush garden or on a beautiful beach. What better reference point to start your love affair with wearing white?

What should we wear?

It's an obvious choice during the balmy summer months or on sunshine-fuelled holidays, but we're actually wearing white right now too. It isn't out of place in mid-March at all, just save your sun dress until later in the season and pull on tailored jackets, tees, cropped trousers and skinny jeans instead - lighter pieces can wait until temperatures have caught up.

And how should we wear it?

White should be layered this season, so don't be shy. It's a statement look but it feels effortless when you slip a basic tee under a textured jacket over your skinny jeans. If you're too scared to go top-to-toe, then soften your look with hints of blush or gold for a subtle splash of colour, or try bold black or midnight blue for something more graphic.
