10.05.15

This month marks the launch of our collaboration with Design Hotel™ and the chance to win 10 nights of luxury on a VIP tour of Mexico. The prize includes 2x return flights to Cancun, 10 nights stay in 3 of the luxurious Design Hotel™ locations and £1000 to spend on the REISS SS15 collection to ensure your trip is a stylish one. We've compiled a travel guide of what to eat, drink and do whilst in Mexico and have highlighted the three very different hotels in question. WHERE TO STAY

PAPAYA PLAYA PROJECT, Tulum A creative haven lies nestled on the coast of the Mayan Riviera, adjacent to sparking waters and the only Mayan ruins on the sea. The Papaya Playa Project exudes healthy creativity where you can eat organic, locally sourced meals on the terrace of the Beach Club and partake in a cocktail session at the resort’s creative pop-up, The Tribal Room.

WHERE TO EAT

HARTWOOD

Hartwood is located on a jungle road along the Caribbean Sea in Tulum with sustainability at its very core. All cooking is done by open fire and every single ingredient is locally sourced – fish is spear caught and fruit and vegetables are harvested from communal Mayan farms.

CASA BANANA

Casa Banana is a gathering place located on the jungle side of Tulum Mexico’s beach road, serving up urban rustic food and specialsing in wood-fire cuisine. Please note, Casa Banana only accepts cash payments.

CETLI

Mexico City–born chef Claudia Perez Rivas presides over this restaurant housed in a private home on a quiet Tulum backstreet. The menu is inspired by traditional Mexican dishes and prepared with a fine-tuned eye for detail.

WHERE TO DRINK

GITANO

Gitano is a mezcal and tapas bar located on the jungle side of the beach.

CASA JAGUAR

Located in the jungle of Tulum, Casa Jaguar's menu, design and concept have been influenced by the travels of the owners through Asia, Europe and Mexico.

POSADA MARGHERITA

Head to this popular haunt for sundowners by candlelight with locals and tourists alike.

WHERE TO VISIT

Design Hotel™ recommends paying a visit to the Coba Ruins whilst in Tulum, as well as the historic Tulum Pyramids pictured above. The beautiful Cenotes can also be found in various locations across the country.

DESEO, Playa del Carmen The Deseo is a temple for the young and the young at heart. The unique structure offers surprising design elements such as the traditional stone entrance and the second-storey arcade of horizontal slats, which invites guests to gaze down at the pool below.

HOTEL LA SEMILLA, Playa del Carmen Hotel La Semilla is infused with a sense of Mexican heritage and style thanks to its vintage furniture and historical finds from haciendas around the country. The hotel possesses a laidback simplicity with lounging spaces where mismatched furniture creates an eclectic aesthetic.
