REISS LOVES: WOOL WEEK

16.10.12

Every autumn, Wool Week takes place around the world to honour one of the world’s most natural and versatile fibres. Held by The Campaign for Wool, the annual event kicked off yesterday in the UK and will run until Sunday. We find out what Wool Week is all about, and take a closer look at some of our own woolly knits for AW12.

The Campaign

Wool Week runs each year to support The Campaign for Wool, which is a global community of sheep farmers, retailers, designers and manufacturers. The organisation's patron is no other than His Royal Highness Prince of Wales.

What The Campaign for Wool aims to do is educate people about the benefits and versatility of wool in everyday life, with a focus on fashion and furnishings. By doing this, the organisation is supporting many small businesses and local farmers whose livelihoods depend on the wool industry.

Love Train

Love Wool UK, a free-style celebration that all lovers of wool can join in on, is setting a unique travelling challenge this year to a team of 30 "super knitters". The mission, which has been named The Clickety Click on the Clickety Clack, is made up of designers, artisans, editors and representatives in teams from colleges and knit organisations.

The super knitters have been set the task of creating a “super-size knitted Union Jack flag” in wool from the different British sheep breeds, while journeying from London to Edinburgh and back by train. The giant wool flag will have to be complete on their return so they can wave it from King's Cross.

Reiss Loves Wool Week

We're big fans of the use of wool in fashion here at Reiss, which you can see just by looking at the cosy knits in our AW12 collection. Here are a couple of our favourite pieces of knitwear to get you in the mood for Wool Week...

Brighten up your woolly winter wardrobe with Hallie in sea foam blue worn over Melanie in salmon. Break the look up by opting for Bidston in black, a figure-hugging skirt crafted from 100% pure wool.

For the guys, wrap up in a classic overcoat for Wool Week layered over a cosy cable crew knit. Our grey Casablanca coat paired with Buffalo in oatmeal will fit the bill perfectly.
