Here at Reiss we love afternoon tea. In fact, any meal with high quantities of sugar is greatly appreciated when we're suffering a mid-week slump. And so, on Tuesday afternoon we decided to down tools and head up the road to the very conveniently-positioned Mandeville Hotel for their exquisite Vintage Afternoon Tea.

The Mandevillle has already earned a place in our Reiss Guide under the Sleep section, but we felt it only fair to road-test what lip-smacking cakes this pretty hotel, nestled in the heart of Marylebone, might have to offer to some sugar-hungry fashion girls.

With a choice of the Gentleman's Afternoon Tea or the Vintage Afternoon Tea, we plumped for the latter (with one exception), which comprised of a glass of champagne, finger sandwiches, fancies (read; fruit scones, cherry bakewell cupcakes, rhubarb and custard and more...) and a choice of 14 teas.

All served up on three-tier cake stands, Zandra Rhodes crockery and with pretty floral tea pots, the vintage tea had a very cutesy feel.

And after much deliberation, the fruit scones were voted the all-round favourite. Mouth-watering doesn't even begin cover it...

Seriously delicious and far more cakes than we could really squeeze in, we did somehow manage to polish off almost every morsel and whizzed back to the office high on sugar.

A perfect treat (maybe with a sweet-toothed mum this weekend?), or even just for a break from the office with the girls, we can highly recommend Afternoon Tea - vintage style.
