IN THE DIARYMEN'SWOMEN'S
Christmas is a time famed for overindulgence, whether it be in fine food, rapturous dancing, or other general merriment. One of our favourite ways to spend the season is by sipping all manner of drinks in some of the city’s most voguish night time haunts.
To that end, we’ve put together a list of the best places to prop up the bar or dance until dawn this December, so you can see out the year in style.
LIBRARY BAR AT THE LANESBOROUGH, HYDE PARK CORNER
Eschewing the ultra-modern aesthetic so ubiquitous of modern bars, the Library Bar at The Lanesborough is unashamedly Old World. Decorated in the style of Britain’s Regency Era, the Library Bar is all leather bound books, deep leather wing chairs and muted lighting. For those discerning Christmas revellers, the Library Bar at The Lanesborough is the natural choice. Here you’ll be able to enjoy bespoke cocktails and a ‘liquid history’ selection of vintage cognacs. If you’re lucky enough, you can secure a spot by the roaring fire.

BEACH BLANKET BABYLON, NOTTING HILL
Set in the beating heart of London’s notoriously well-heeled Notting Hill, Beach Blanket Babylon is worth a visit for its visually arresting interior alone. Inspired by the opulence of the Baroque and Rococo artistic styles, minimal this bar is not, however its resplendent ambience and similarly opulent list of beverages are ideal for Christmas indulgence.

VILLAGE EAST, BERMONDSEY STREET
Nestled in the heart of London’s under-lauded Bermondsey Street, the good and the great of the area’s emerging creative industries gather at Village East to sample the bar’s comprehensive list of expertly-mixed cocktails. Cool and sophisticated with not a hint of pretension, Village East is one of our favourite places to savour beverages late into the night. If you visit in December, be sure to sample the mulled wine which is available at the bar until January.

THE RUM KITCHEN, SOHO
Banish thoughts of snowy chills by opting for Christmas drinks at Soho’s The Rum Kitchen. This Caribbean inspired beach shack promises festive drinks with winter warmth (there are 100s of warming rums to choose from) alongside a whole host of Caribbean cuisine to complement.

MR FOGG’S, MAYFAIR
Taking its name – and inspiration – from the protagonist of Around the World in 80 Days, Mr Fogg’s is a Victorian themed bar with more than a subtle nod interior nod to the days of the British Empire. Walls are dressed with artefacts purportedly sourced from all around the world, while the roaring open fire is a wonderfully wintry touch. Make no mistake though, Mr Fogg’s may be located in upmarket Mayfair, but this bar is decidedly tongue-in-cheek, therefore ideal for holiday high jinks.
