REISS GIRL NYC: MEN & THE CITY

05.10.12

So I thought I’d mix things up this week and do a little post for the dudes! My brother and boyfriend have been in town and with their visit came a well-researched list of more masculine activities to keep one occupied in New York.

Taking on a full day in this city is no mean feat; in fact it’s nothing short of exhausting.  So get the motor running and start the morning with a decent breakfast!  If spending the day in Brooklyn is on the agenda, fill up for fuel at Egg, Pies & Thighs or Rabbit Hole, trust that none of these will disappoint!

At REISS the boys are big on trips to the barbers and in New York there’s no end of places to seek out a seamless short back and sides.  However, on recommendation from my boyfriend pop into Persons of Interest.  This coiffeurs prizes itself on being a relaxed bureau with good music, quality reading and above all exceptional service and skill.  I’m also told the beers are brill and the company even better.

If like my brother you’re a guitar head, pay a visit to Main Drag Music.  This gem is apparently one of the world’s best kept secrets - and that’s some statement.  They have a vast selection of amps and boast an almost complete vintage inventory!  So if it's arm candy of the Fender or Gibson sort you’re looking to take home, be sure to pay this haunt a visit.

Next up on the list is ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’ vintage store. There is no end of menswear shopping in Manhattan but for one off pieces and collectors’ items be sure to embark on a rummage for hidden treasures.

In the market for a permanent souvenir of your New York extravaganza?  Then why not mark the spot and invest in a little ink work! 8 of Swords is a tattoo parlor, retail boutique and fine art gallery! When it comes to tattoos I always remind myself of that classic Clueless quote ‘You see how picky I am about my shoes and they only go on my feet.' But if like my boyfriend you’re a fan of the needle then check this place out, he did and had the tat to prove it!

A trip to New York is never complete without a stroll through Central Park and although it has miles of beauty to offer, a firm favorite spot is most definitely Strawberry Fields.  Strawberry Fields was dedicated to the late John Lennon.  The entrance to the memorial is located on Central Park West at West 72nd Street directly across from the Dakota Building, where Lennon had lived for the later part of his life.  It’s beautiful, peaceful and above all one of the coolest memorials out there for one of the world’s most legendary men.

Last but by no means least is Radio City Music hall. I think it’s safe to say most guys out there are partial to a gig and this venue is magnificent!  We took a trip to see Bon Iver, the theatre is an Art Deco masterpiece of excellence and with its famous great stage that resembles the sun setting, you’re bound to be blown away.
