So the past couple of weeks have been devoted to winding down the workload and topping up the tan... VACA!  From Miami to Delray, I've been soaking up the sun on a couple of East Coast sandy stretches and wanted to share with you what’s haute and what’s not!

First up, I headed out to the notorious South Beach to hit up some heat in what’s now one of my top destinations for a little sun kissed culture.  From buzzing beach vibes to Art Deco excellence, there really is something soothing for the soul in this coastal crazy town.

With only 48 hours in Miami before hitting the road and heading North, I felt tense on touchdown - with such a short stint and so much sun, sea, sand and shopping to succumb to, I raced around the city quicker than you can say casino!  So sit back and enjoy the scenery; here’s my speedy guide to MIA.

Start with a swagger down Ocean Drive (for those of you who remember the Lighthouse Family, be warned that you will be singing that one hit wonder on loop - tres annoying). Anyways, this famous strip owns the dawn with pastel-coloured hotels that sparkle in the sun.  Tip - admire the Drive by walking down the beach side of the street; hosts and hostesses will practically drag you by the hair to have you eat at their establishment!

My advice is to Head to News Café for a morning coffee and a little people perving. Breakfast is served 24 hours a day and anything goes on this menu but be sure to order the apple juice and fresh lemons, delish.  Caution - alcohol is not served, so I recommend this as destination day time!

A couple of doors up is the former Versace Mansion and Ocean Drives most infamous residence, AKA The Villa by Barton G.  At a minimum of 400 big bucks for a place setting and a reservation waiting list the length of Nikki Beach, I got as far as standing outside the gates and taking pictures with my camera phone, no really… classy!  Book ahead and if overseas you might want to notify your bank before they put an accidental block on your account for fraud!

If it’s a bit of retail therapy you’re after, take a break from the humidity and let your wallet take you in the direction of Aventura Mall; this little slice of shopping heaven is home to REISS and an array of retailers and restaurants.

Another destination to exercise your pin number is The Webster on Collins Avenue, a luxury multi-brand boutique and creation of French fashionista and Collette founder Milan Vukmirovic. With its careful selection of young designers; sip on champagne, enjoy ocean views and shop till the credit card drops!

Come the afternoon, step off of the sidewalk and onto the sand, stay put till sundown and watch the sunset behind the Art Deco district.  As evening hits so do the party people, peruse Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive for a vibe that tickles your fancy in this neon nation!  As a die-hard diner of Cecconi’s, it gets my vote every time. But with no end of options, research restaurants, bars and clubs before you join the revelry.

So there you have it, no longer simply a beach resort with a sizzling club scene, party-loving Miami has matured into a stylish summer holiday and I would thoroughly recommend ‘The Magic City’ for a beach-break with a slice of sophistication… my next stop, Delray revelry!
