PRINTSPIRATION: PART TWO

05.09.13

In part two of our print-inspired collaboration with Catwalk Queen, we look to the girls from their editorial team to style up their favourite Reiss prints their way. Acting as inspiration for our ‘printspiration‘ competition, where you could be in with the chance of winning a £1000 gift card, meet the Catwalk Queen girls…

I’m wearing the Georgia contrast sleeve print silk shirt, a black Topshop mini skirt with zip detailing and black strappy high-heeled sandals.

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to keep the outfit simple to really make the monochrome butterfly print pop, so kept to a black colour scheme; the mini skirt was an excuse to get the pins out in the good weather! I love the zip detailing on the skirt as it toughens up the lightweight blouse.

Where will you wear it?

It’s a perfect day-to-night outfit – smart enough for the office but flirty and versatile for after work drinks too.

How could you style it differently?

I would style the blouse down a little by undoing the top button and pairing with dark skinny jeans and maybe a heavier shoe boot. It would also look great with a chunky necklace and a clutch bag for a relaxed evening out.

How will you wear prints in AW13?

I will be keeping it simple this autumn/winter by pairing prints with basic block colours - I love to introduce print and colour to a heavier winter outfit with a statement print scarf or patterned jacket.

I'm wearing the Orla geo print silk trousers, a Topshop cami, New Look courts and Gok Wan spectacles teamed with a Marc By Marc Jacobs croc clutch and a Hugo Boss watch.

What was your inspiration?

For me, the trousers were the focal point. I wanted the look to feel timeless but stylish, mixing smarter, classic elements of the outfit like the heels with fun, colourful accents like the clutch and lipstick.

Where will you wear it?

It all depends on my mood or the occasion - they're so versatile that they'll work anywhere! The beautiful tailoring means they won't look out of place in the office with an oversized blouse, but thanks to the luxe fabric they're equally chic (and seriously comfortable!) so I'd be happy to include them in my evening wardrobe too. They'd make a great alternative to a dress for a city wedding.

How could you style it differently?

My day-to-day look is laidback compared to this outfit; I'd most likely pair them with a rolled sleeve t-shirt, grungy gladiator sandals and oversized sunglasses. Silk trousers are a great transeasonal investment: they're flexible from warm to cooler weather and will look perfect styled with lots of layering and ankle boots as autumn rolls in.

Prints still play a key role in my autumn/winter wardrobe - perhaps even more so than they do in the summer months. You'll find me mixing dark florals and monochrome graphic patterns with leather separates, boots and plenty of eyeliner!

I’m wearing the Daria geo print silk dress with black platform suede pumps from Topshop.

What was your inspiration?

The weather! Any other time I would’ve paired this dress with a leather jacket to rock it up, but right now I'm not ready for extra layers. Since the print is quite busy I thought I’d keep it simple and just add a pair of killer heels – great leg lengtheners.

Where will you wear it?

Styled this way I’d definitely wear it to a wedding or any other occasion like a garden party,  but I’d add a bag for emergency flats. Those shoes really are killer.

How could you style it differently?

In cooler weather I’d rock it up a bit and add a leather jacket and maybe some boots. Because the silk is so light it’s perfect for layering too, so you could easily make it more smart than dressy for the office, by throwing over a blazer in a bright colour.

How will you wear prints in AW13?

I don’t like to mix prints much because I don’t think I have the talent for it, so I like to keep it simple – I’ll probably pick a central item and build a look around it, like a printed top with jeans, or a dress or playsuit with tights.

I'm wearing the Gilda speckle print jersey dress, which I've teamed with a Russell & Bromley jewelled cuff and a pair of cream patent M&S pumps.

What was your inspiration?

I've got into neutrals in a big way this season - I love my accessories and they really stand out more against subtle garments. But I also love the way the speckled print adds interest.

Where will you wear it?

I'd wear this look at a wedding or party, knowing I'd wear it again and again; its simplicity makes it the perfect example of a garment to dress up or down.

How could you style it differently?

A thick belt and some heavier jewellery would give it an edgier look for nights out, while teamed with a jacket and black heels it would be ideal office wear.

How will you wear prints in AW13?

I'm going to be bolder about wearing prints on those staple items I'd normally reserve for block colour - like shoes, jackets and outerwear.
