MY SECRET PARIS: CAMILLA MORTON

30.09.11

From New York, London and Milan, finally we've reached Paris Fashion Week! And we continue our My Secret City feature with the lovely Camilla Morton who's shared with us her top spots in La Ville-Lumiere!

-

Name: Camilla Morton

Occupation: Fashion Writer / Author ‘How To Walk In High Heels’ (http://www.camillamorton.com/)

Where in Paris are you based (when there): the 1st — I love to stay in this area, near to the Louvre, rue de Rivoli and with a view of the Eiffel Tower as it sparkles.

-

WHAT DO YOU DO ON YOUR DAYS OFF: There is no such thing as a day off in Paris!

FAVOURITE PLACES TO DINE OUT FOR DINNER IN PARIS: I love Castiglione for their burgers and fat chips drowned in a sauce that I am sure is 1000 Island dressing…and if there is time I always like to queue for a table at Entrecote — the best steak and frites and worth the wait!

-

-

FAVOURITE PLACE TO HAVE A DRINK: I don’t ‘drink’ I think the cocktails at the Hemmingway Bar (Ritz Hotel) look very glamorous but for me Angellinas Hot Chocolate is the best!

-

-

-

BEST BRUNCH SPOT: Either l’Avenue on Avenue Montaigne if interviewing someone, Laduree if there for pleasure, or Café Blanc (the Courreges Café on Rue Francois Premier)

BEST CAFÉ: Café Ruc (again its all part of my French Frites quest)

CURRENT HOT SPOT: For me a ‘hot spot’ is where my friends are — be it backstage, in the studio or in a hotel lobby late at night post fittings!

ON A RAINY DAY WHERE’S THE BEST PLACE TO SOAK UP SOME CULTURE IN THE CITY: I like to get lost in the Louvre or Musse d’Orsay but always buy Pariscope and study it on the Eurostar to see what exhibitions are on at the moment.

FIRST STOP FOR ANY VISITOR IN THE CITY: The Louvre and all its wonders

-

-

FAVOURITE BOOKSHOP: Galignani 224 rue de rivoli

-

-

-

WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED PARIS NEIGHBOURHOOD: 1st — tourist trash meets the ritz

MOST INSPIRING PLACE IN PARIS: The top of the Eiffel Tower / Sacre Coeur / Opera Garnier or failing that the big wheel in the Tuilleries garden.

-

-

NAME A PARK THAT YOU COULD SPEND YOUR WHOLE DAY IN:  Just like Marie Antoniette I could happily walk back and forth up the Tuileries but for me my favourite walk is along the Seine past the bridges (and this is what Sabrina did each day in the Audrey Hepburn movie)

HERE ARE YOUR FAVOURITE LOCAL PLACES TO SHOP:  I like to explore the Galleries Layfayette and go around Les Halles and the Marais to see the small boutiques

WHAT’S A KEY FASHION TREND YOU SEE ON THE STREETS OF PARIS RIGHT NOW:  savoir faire

WHERE IN PARIS DO YOU FEEL TRULY EPITOMISES THE ‘BUZZ’ OF THE CITY: Place Vendome or rue du Faubourg St Honore — a fashion mecca and hot spot for people watching

IF YOU COULD THINK OF ONE SONG AS THE SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR LIFESTYLE IN PARIS WHAT WOULD IT BE: La Vie en Rose?!

BEST PLACE TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS: from a taxi as you lurch past the unexpected!

SECRET GEM: finding a cab
