MY FASHION WEEK: MAKE-UP ARTIST WENDY ROWE

18.02.14

To celebrate the final day of London Fashion Week, we caught up with international make-up artist, blogger and artistic consultant for Burberry, Wendy Rowe, and talked her favourite fashion shows, how she'd 'make up' Marilyn Monroe and a few top beauty tips.

Which beauty essentials can't you leave home without during fashion week?

I can never leave the house without wearing moisturiser, it's like clothing for my skin and I would feel naked without it - I like Creme de la Mer which is especially great during the cold months when the skin is particularly dry. I always carry Decleor lip balm in my winter handbag too, as the harsh wind and bitter cold can make your lips chapped if you don't protect them.

What was your favourite ever fashion week show?

It has to be the SS 2004 Alexander McQueen show - it was like a dance competition and I loved the energy!

What are the key beauty trends emerging from fashion week so far?

It's difficult to predict trends so early on in the show schedule, but so far for AW14 it's looking like there's an underlying graphic trend emerging, with graphic shadowing or liner on the eye. Skin is quite velvety and the face is sculptured and there's also a hint of metallics coming through. My favourite shows so far are Marc by Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang, which both looked super cool.

Whose face would you most like to 'make up' ?

It's difficult to pick just one... Elizabeth Taylor as she had a great face with good bone structure and I've always been a fan of the big brows she had. Marilyn Monroe as I think you can change her quite a bit - I'd like to make her look like she's wearing nothing, which is quite different from her iconic look. And, Princess Diana, as I could have made her look really fashionable in a cool, modern way.

Tell us your best beauty tip

It's super important to always take your make-up off at night, as this is when your skin can rejuvenate properly. Everyone always wants amazing skin, and you need to ensure it's loved and kept really clean to achieve this.

Which show are you most excited to see?

I am most excited to see the Burberry Prorsum show this season - even though I work on it, there is always so much going on and it really all comes together at the last minute.

What's your favourite fashion week haunt?

Little House is my favourite place to hang out during fashion week - it's comfortable, chilled out and quite dark, so you can easily relax with friends without seeing everyone. As it's a private members club it's relatively easy to a table too (super important when most places book out!) and the food is great.
