LESSONS FROM LC:M SS15

25.06.14

Whether it was at the shows or on the streets, London Collections: Men SS15 was abundant with pitch perfect looks, inspiring new menswear trends and more than a smattering of fine tailoring. But, what were the lessons to take from the showcase? We dissect SS15's prevailing styles and trends.

PRINT UNDERCOVER

Camouflage has enjoyed a resurgence of late, appearing on shirts, trousers and in all manner of non-traditional guises. Our favourite interpretation of the print was when it was worn in classic brown, green and beige on shoes and accessories to add a flash of loud pattern to otherwise sober ensembles.

HIGH ROLLERS

With startling resilience exposed ankles once again forcefully made their presence felt both inside the shows and on the streets outside. And, while some menswear aficionados artfully folded their hems in a northerly direction, others did away with excessive ankle material by cutting away the hems entirely - as evidenced above at Matthew Miller.

BLOOMS IN THE SHADE

Anyone with even the slightest awareness of menswear trends will have been hard pushed to avoid this summer's generous peppering of floral blooms on shirts and T-shirts. Offering a respite from the summer uniform of pastels and airy shades, the most fashionable floral prints have been given a dark and dangerous twist. And, if style at this season's round of shows is anything to go by, expect lots more of the same next summer.

A SHORT CUT

It was only a matter of time before short suits migrated from the menswear shows and pages of editorial to the streets of the world's most stylish cities. We've long been championing this summer-ready approach to tailoring and will be following suit well into SS15.

THE CUBAN COLLAR

If there's one collar shape that defined the season then the Cuban collar was surely it. And, if you needed any more persuasion about the shirt's rising style stock, model, fashion writer and all-round menswear enthusiast Oliver Cheshire opted for our Alder shirt in white when flitting between shows and parties at LC:M.
