Louise Roe, fashion writer and host of MTV's Plain Jane, talk us through why she loves London and where her favourite city hangouts are.

London is a stylish city because...

On the west side, you've got boho fashionistas strutting their stuff in maxi skirts and giant shades; in the middle you've got polished city slickers with pencil skirts and stilettos; and over on the east, you've got an eclectic, grungy mix of biker jackets, chunky boots and neon nails.

Every trend that ever existed, and some that are yet to be commercialised, exist in London town on the ladies and lads you see passing by. Just walking around the cobbled backstreets is a fashion show in itself.

My favourite place in London is ...

Browns Hotel. There's something very decadent about staying in a hotel in the city you're from, which I did here once, and thoroughly enjoyed. Looking out from the room's balconies you can peer over and see the twinkly lights of Bond Street, and the high tea is old fashioned and elegant, just like high tea should be. Nestled into the bustling, busy streets of Mayfair, it was a favourite watering hole of Winston Churchill and is the only place Karl Lagerfeld will stay when he visits town.
