GET READY FOR AUSTRALIA DAY

23.01.13

This Saturday is officially national Australia Day, honouring the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788. To celebrate, we’re rounding up some of the best Aussie pubs, bars and restaurants in London for you to spend Saturday night; as well as what’s going on in Australia itself for those of you lucky enough to be Down Under this weekend.

Barossa in Fulham

This quaint, Australian-run restaurant in Parsons Green serves simple yet delicious food. Its all-day brunch and lunch menus have something for everyone, as does its fantastic wine list. The staff are friendly, coffee is great and it has a typical Aussie vibe. We highly recommend!

Suze in Mayfair

Grand and super-stylish, Suze in Mayfair is the perfect wine bar and restaurant to visit for delicately cared-for seafood and extravagant platters for groups to share. With its regularly changing menu, Suze offers interesting dishes such as tasting plates of squid, ostrich or kangaroo, to healthy salads and New Zealand green shell mussels. Treat yourself this Australia Day.

12 Hours of Power at Infernos in Clapham

If you fancy celebrating the whole of Australia Day, then look no further than 12 Hours of Power at Infernos in Clapham. Starting at 9am and ending at 9pm, the Aussie-themed party is free all day and includes a free drink on arrival before noon (when you pre-register at TNT magazine). Expect Australian beers, music and competition prizes for the best fancy dress costume.

Australia Celebrates Live in Canberra

If you’re lucky enough to be celebrating Australia Day Down Under this weekend, Australia Celebrates Live in Canberra is an absolute must-see event.

The free event, which has been held for the last decade, kicks off at 6pm on Friday night with the Australian of the Year Awards. Then at 7:30pm the Australia Celebrates Live concert begins, with an exciting line-up consisting of Jimmy Barnes and The Presets. We’ll undoubtedly be watching the event too, although sadly through our computer screens.
