WHY YOU NEED LIGHT TROUSERS

23.08.16

Stone, grey, cream, off-white (or just plain white) we think light trousers get an unjustly bad rap. Yes, light trousers come with that nagging need for extreme caution, but then again so does the white shirt and that’s filed under ‘wardrobe item I cannot live without’ for the majority of men.

Southwards on the body though, it seems that the palest shades are not so welcome. It’s not just caution that keeps light trousers from claiming their spot on menswear’s must-have list, they’re regarded with a degree of sartorial suspicion, not only supposedly impractical, but almost universally unflattering to boot.

We’re breaking rank and arguing the case for always keeping light trousers at the forefront of your mind when dressing.

Whether you’re just about to pack yours away or are unsure whether or not to invest, we urge you to consider their all-year-round appropriateness.

WESTFIELD WORLD TRADE CENTER STORE LAUNCH

17.08.16

On Tuesday the 16th August, we opened our second stand-alone New York store at Westfield World Trade Center inside the Oculus building. Refreshments, logo-stamped cookies and complimentary People’s Pops ice-pops marked the occasion, and guest illustrator Lily Qian set up on the shop floor to provide bespoke customer portraits.

Alongside this, the Oculus had its own events taking place, with a ‘Family Day’ theme and a performance to close the celebrations at the end of the day. We headed to the location to take a look behind the scenes.

JAMIE DORNAN WEARS REISS

08.08.16

It’s indisputable, the Cuban collar shirt is the most unfailingly stylish wardrobe staple a man can own right now. Case in point? Take Jamie Dornan for example, who stepped out in New York City wearing our Bellagio Cuban collar shirt.

Yes, we’ll concede that Mr Dornan is one of those frustratingly genetically blessed men who can pull off just about anything (or nothing as his movie roles may require) but that’s beside the point. The Cuban collar shirt is a fail-safe route to sophisticated summer style.

It’s not just Jamie Dornan who’s been convinced by this classic collar shape either, Alexander Skarsgard was spotted sporting the look earlier this summer.

So, why are some of world’s the best-dressed men queuing up to wear the Cuban collar? Put simply it’s hard to go wrong when wearing. Pair it with jeans or chinos, shorts or trousers, tucked in or left untucked, it all works.

See how we’re wearing below.

5 SUMMER OCCASIONS, 5 WAYS TO DRESS WELL

02.08.16

Dressing for an occasion is always a bit of a minefield, add summer’s sticky heat to the equation and things get even more complex. On one hand you’ve got small gatherings such as barbecues with their nagging temptation to throw on an ironic Hawaiian shirt (please don’t) and on the other you’ve got all-out meltdown inducing summer occasions. The worst culprit is surely the summer wedding – we’re not sure that ‘formal’ attire really means anything more specific than some form of tailoring.

Here are five occasions you’re likely to run into problems at and five sartorial solutions.

WHAT’S ON IN LONDON IN AUGUST

HOW TO WEAR SHORTS

30.07.16

Shorts are a pretty obvious wardrobe choice come summer – which – theoretically means that they should be easy enough pull off. The reality however always proves to be a little trickier. First there’s the length. How much is too much? Too high and you risk overexposure, too low and you’re lost in billowing fabric (just above the knee is our tip). Then, even if you’ve mastered the fit there’s pattern colour and pairings to consider.

From dressing down tailored shorts to dressing up swimshorts, we show you how to master wearing a summer staple.

28.07.16

It’s fair to say that the good weather has only recently made its overdue appearance, and with that in mind it has been somewhat tricky to envisage the kind of occasionwear outfit that would work for late summer. However, our new-season picks will ensure you’re at the top of your sartorial game, and what’s more? These pieces are so new you’ll minimise your chances of having that awkward matching-outfit situation with other guests.

RULES OF DRESSING FOR THE ENGLISH SUMMER

19.07.16

Despite our annual hopes of soaring climates come June and July, the reality of the Great British Summer is sometimes a slightly less tropical affair. In turn, dressing for the season can be tricky to master, so to make things easier, we’ve compiled a set of ‘rules’ to keep in mind that may make perfecting your look a somewhat more effortless task.

SIX LOOKS TO TRY THIS SUMMER

08.07.16

Try as we might, there’s no getting around the fact that sometimes a summer doesn’t feel much like a summer at all. While we may be optimistically wedded to the idea of long sunny days and barbecues without threatening clouds collecting overhead, we’re hereby calling for a reality check on the season formerly known as summer.

Don’t pack away your T-shirts and shorts just yet though – we’re not completely writing off chances for basking in rays, we’re simply giving you a sartorial briefing for all eventualities. Come rain or shine, here are six looks to see you through summer.

ALEXANDER SKARSGARD WEARS REISS

07.07.16

When it comes to dressing for summer, it pays to resist the temptation to slip into your old uniform of a T-shirt and shorts. Why? There are dividends to be reaped by getting out of your comfort zone.

Case in point is Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard who stepped out in our linen and cotton blend Palma shirt when promoting his latest movie in London.

Proving that summer print need not be loud and capitalising on the season’s linen love affair, Skarsgard’s look is one you’d do well to mentally bookmark when planning your summer holiday dressing.

JUST LANDED: REISS ON MADISON AVENUE, NEW YORK

22.06.16

2016 has proven to be a year of continued global expansion for Reiss and today marks the launch of a further store opening, this time on New York’s iconic Madison Avenue. Much like the stores prior to this one, the architectural concept has been specifically designed with its location in mind, and whilst it stays true to the clean-cut aesthetic established at Reiss, there are elements that make each space completely unique. We look a little closer into what Dorrien Hopley of design agency, d-raw has created.
