FASHION NOTES: DAY TO NIGHT DRESSING, THE AW15 EDIT

13.11.15

Day to night dressing is a timeless art, but with a new season comes fresh styling possibilities that bring new perspective to the look. The trick is to build two very different outfits around one key piece, so we’ve selected our favourite AW15 investments and styled them to suit both occasions. Our top tip for the season? Autumn is all about layering, so build up same-tone pieces and mix textures to create depth.

The velvet Alfalfa sweatshirt tops the leader board as the ultimate day to night piece for AW15. Seemingly simple due to its classic silhouette, it’s the soft fabrication and light-catching quality that gives it its edge. Wear it with jeans and boots in the day, adding a shearling-lined biker for a tough-luxe edge, and tuck it in to an embellished mini skirt for evening to strike the balance between dressed up and directional.

Everyone knows that the perfect black dress will take you from day to night with ease, and this season sees the classic piece updated for now in the form of the Farrah. Designed with a dropped waist and gold-tone button detailing, it’s a versatile piece with a decorative twist. Teamed with classic court shoes, it’s perfect for the office, and when worn with metallic accessories and a striking faux-fur or shearling coat, it takes an elevated turn.

The Carrie leather leggings are a Reiss signature that slip seamlessly into the modern capsule wardrobe. Designed for a super-skinny fit to create a sleek silhouette, they’re a wear-anywhere investment with elegant appeal. Dress them down with trainers in the day and wear them with a sheer silk blouse and heels for increased impact after dark.

A statement jacket is your shortcut to stand-out style and the Maddy is designed in the season’s favoured burgundy hue with a tactile calf-hair front panel. Style it with a tonal top for evening to give layering an on-point edge, and add leather biker trousers and neoprene-spliced heels for a nod to AW15’s texture focus. To tone things down for day, a high-neck blouse and tailored trousers in classic monochromatic hues will make a sophisticated impression.
