After some consideration we thought it would be interesting to spotlight compelling literature on the blog. We hope to collect a suitably diverse mix of stylish, cult and maybe undiscovered content. We start with something current… Author John Lanchester’s new book ‘Capital’ examines an account of the vulnerable understanding of community and the fractured relationships within. The sagas of the residents of ‘Pepys Road’ are thrashed out amongst a property boom, which directly affects all the occupants of an ordinary London street. After each member receives a message with the statement, “We want what you have”, it becomes the start of trouble in this leafy London paradise. This book is an interesting and entertaining account of the notions of displaced community, which have been replaced in this case by the age old desire for money and consumerism.
