It’s so easy to conform to what we consider to be traditional ‘wedding guest’ outfits as soon as the invites arrive, but is that the best way to go about approaching occasionwear? Who better to ask for advice than Anna Vitiello and Florrie Thomas, the fashion experts and creative duo behind the Instagram account, &Finally, for their thoughts on the topic? Whether you’re heading to a beach wedding, a city ceremony or have received an evening invite, this curation will help you think outside the box when it comes to accessorising.

THE COUNTRY WEDDING

"There are less rules for country weddings than those in the city as they tend to be more relaxed. You can be as open as the fields around you. Clashing colours are an effortless way to add interest and make your outfit modern. Burgundy and black, for example, are a perfect combination and a block heel or a wedge is a must."

THE EVENING INVITE

"Evening weddings are on the other end of the scale: you have every reason to go a little more polished and glamorous, so we've chosen the sleekest accessories for this. A little chain handle bag is always so feminine, and a strappy mule is a modern update on the stiletto."

Cupid mules, Aqua bag

THE BEACH WEDDING

"Beach weddings tend to be relaxed and dreamy, so there’s no space for stilettos and tight dresses here. Suede pastels will look so pretty on the beach but it’s important to remember to wear a block heel or a flat so that you’re not sinking into the sand with every step!"

What are your top 3 styling tips when it comes to accessories?

When it comes to wedding season, you want to look formal without compromising your own sense of style, and that can be quite a challenge. It’s so easy to buy into what you see as being ‘right’ for a wedding, but it shouldn’t be about that. Choose something that reflects your everyday style but also works for an occasion such as this. A black suede shoulder bag with a gold chain doesn’t scream ‘wedding’ but it does easily dress up a simple silk or suede dress. The same goes for shoes. Don’t go for embellished and girly just because you’re at a wedding if it isn’t something you would usually wear.

What do you consider to be the key accessories trends for SS16?

Accessories are having a moment and are really becoming acknowledged as being style game-changers, so they certainly have their own trends now. Mules are the biggest news for footwear, whether flat or heeled; something about the backless shoe just exudes cool and transforms an outfit. Bags, on the other hand, have taken a ladylike turn. The black woven clutch that we have chosen epitomises this. Finally, statement earrings are absolutely everywhere, and not just for occasion dressing – why not dress up your daytime wardrobe?

Who do you think gets their accessories styling right every time?

Blogger and stylist Pernille Teisbaek has the best accessories collection of anyone, and not just because she owns the best pieces but because she styles them in such a great way. She’ll take something precarious and make it look easily wearable with her choice of styling.

What is your go-to piece for elevating a simple outfit?

A great clutch. It’s incredible how quickly a casual outfit – like jeans, a T-shirt and trainers – can be transformed  by a typically evening-ready accessory. It adds polish without compromising on the cool factor.
