5 STYLE TIPS FOR SPRING

17.04.16

Navigate the tricky weather and nail menswear's latest looks with our list of the five style tips that you should pay attention to this spring.

1. THE MAC IS BACK

A mac, for spring? We know, it's not breaking any radically new territory, but there's a reason that this trusty staple has been propping up men's wardrobes for hundreds of years.

Quite simply, the mac looks just as great as it performs and can be worn with absolutely anything imaginable - nearly. Wear at the weekend or slip over tailoring, fold into a tote bag or use in place of a shorter jacket. In short, the trusty mac can do just about anything for your wardrobe that you want it to.

2. IT'S ALREADY SUNGLASSES SEASON

Sunglasses are just about one of the trickiest - if not the trickiest - accessory to get right. Too often what looks like a perfectly credible pair one minute soon becomes an ill-advised faux pas once placed on the bridge of your nose. Getting it right takes some time.

Start looking for your sunglasses now. Not only will it give you more time to find the perfect pair, but your cost per wear calculations will be sent plummeting - contrary to popular belief the sun does in fact  shine in spring too.

Our favourite styles for this season utilise tortoiseshell, round lenses and slim arms.

3. IT'S TECHNICALLY LINEN SEASON TOO

Forget everything that you thought you knew about linen. It's not just something that creases easily and is best worn for some sun-drenched holiday; it should be an essential part of your spring wardrobe, especially if you spend most of your time in a suit.

This season's linen suits utilise the fabric's heat-beating properties (not to mention its admirable toughness) but blend with a variety of other fibres to offer a weave that's less prone to creasing.

For the linen purist, a pure linen shirt or t-shirt taken in a bold colour will make a savvy addition to your sartorial arsenal and will only get better with age.

Layer your linen now, but wear alone when the weather heats up.

4. THE GRANDAD COLLAR IS BIG NEWS

If only there was a way to stay buttoned up in the warmer months without feeling so restricted? There is. Step forward the grandad collar shirt which has long been offering men a way to stay smart while losing the collar that can become uncomfortable on warmer days.

The grandad collar shirt is pretty versatile luckily. A natural choice for off-duty dressing with a formal edge, the style is also perfect for wearing at work (dress code permitting) and negates the need for a tie. Win win we say.

5. JOIN THE GREEN PARTY

No, not that green party, we mean get to grips with green for your wardrobe. we like to think of green as spring/summer's answer to autumn/winter's navy. Khaki, racing green, forest green or palest green, there's a shade for everyone and it's less predictable than blue.

As above, wear yours on a lightweight jacket for maximum style points this spring.
