5 QUESTIONS WITH...SUMMER RAYNE OAKES

13.02.12

'Eco-model', Summer Rayne Oakes tells us what she's looking forward to at NYFW. Love her fashion week anecdote too...

What's your favourite ever Fashion Week show?

Definitely was the label Project Alabama, which is now called Alabama Chanin. I recall a nine-year old prodigy fiddler came out and brought the sounds of the south under the tents. I wasn't walking in the show that time - I was actually filming it for a TV segment - and got a little of Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] and Dree [Hemingway] on cam. It was a delight to watch. And Natalie, the designer behind Alabama Chanin has the most wonderful spirit of any designer I have ever met.

Which trend will you be trialling at Fashion Week?

I’ll be wearing a combination of vintage and luxury and Eco fashion. There's a great selection of independent designers showcasing in The Green Shows at "The Box.": Helena Fredriksson, The Battalion, Study NY, Ajna, and others.

Name 5 people from your fantasy front row.

Dita von Teese, Caroline Issa, Alexa Chung, Bandana Tewari, The Olsen Twins (let's count them as one).

Which show are you most excited to see?

I always enjoy Rag and Bone.

Tell us your favourite Fashion Week anecdote.

I did a show for Ekovaruhuset once where designer Elisa Jimenez (designer currently on Project Runway All Stars in the U.S.) literally created a dress on me in 3 minutes before a live audience. Despite the fact that the show started 45 minutes behind schedule and the crowd was restless, the execution of Elisa's creation was impeccable.
