THE RULES OF WINTER STYLE

30.11.16

Follow our top tips to mastering cold-weather dressing

When it comes to winter dressing, there’s an art to mastering the fusion of fashion and functionality but when done right, it can prove to be one of the most elegant interpretations of style. Stick to this season’s rulebook and you’ll get it right every time.

1.

TAKE TEXTURE IN AMPLE PROPORTION

What better excuse to wrap up in the most indulgent of textures than winter, when outdoor city dressing is as much about style as it is about function? This season’s fabrications are particularly luxe and we recommend clashing cashmere with shearling, leather with silk, for an elevated take on everyday dressing.

2.

LAYER TONAL HUES

The tone-on-tone layering look is not a new one – it’s been making its mark on fashion’s landscape for the past few seasons, but it never looks as strong as when it’s styled to suit winter’s chill. This season’s most coveted hues range from soft oatmeal to frosty grey, rich berry to deep navy, so there’s no end to styling possibilities. Our tip? Follow the tonal notion through to the accessories that you choose for that little extra consideration.

3.

CONSIDER YOUR ACCESSORIES

The attention is in the detail of the most impactful looks and now, more than at any other time of year, we focus extra attention on getting accessories right. With a host of designs at your disposal, from understated jewellery to something more statement-making, these small but impressionable additions have the ability to take your look from everyday to elevated. Choose accents to suit and consider the outfit as a whole for a perfectly pulled-together look.

4.
WORK THE METALLIC TREND

For fashion-focussed credentials, be sure to work at least one of the most relevant trends into your wardrobe each season. This autumn/winter, we’re championing metallics in any degree of intensity. For those more casual occasions or if you’re a fan of a somewhat more subdued approach to glitter, look to knits with just a delicate smattering of sequins but when it comes to eveningwear, make fully metallic dresses your style of choice.

5.
EMBRACE TUXEDO DRESSING

If there’s a single look that epitomises the term; modern classic, it’s tuxedo dressing. Initially inspired by the most elevated of menswear suiting, this sharply tailored combination fuses evening-ready elegance with traditional power dressing. The bravest amongst us should style the blazer buttoned up but with little underneath and showcase a flash of ankle by teaming the trousers with cut-away heels.
