HOW TO KEEP YOUR SHIRTS PRISTINE

Discover our tips to make sure that your shirts are kept in pristine condition for as long as possible

Whether for work, play or anything in-between, wearing a shirt is nearly always a good call. If you’re prone to getting a little overzealous with wearing your favourite shirt, then you’d do well to take some preventative steps to ensure that it remains as appealingly fresh as the day that you bought it. We can’t ensure that your shirts will remain stain-free (that much is up to you) but we can offer tips to make sure that you shirts are kept in pristine condition for as long as possible.

1. STORE YOUR SHIRTS CORRECTLY

It goes without saying (we hope) that your shirts shouldn’t be stored in a ball on your bedroom floor. However, there’s more to shirt maintenance than bothering to put them away at all. Shirts should be hung and never folded, this will let creases fall out naturally. Your shirts will fare even better if they’re hung from natural wood hangers which will draw away any moisture from your shirt.

2. WASH YOUR SHIRTS INSIDE OUT

If the continuous tumble of the washing machine’s drum sounds intense, that’s probably because it is. Add to this other garments of clothing simultaneously trashing around and you’ve got potential for premature ageing. Make sure your shirts survive the rough and tumble of the washing machine by turning them inside out before washing.

3. PAY EXTRA ATTENTION TO YOUR SHIRT’S COLLAR

Shirt collars are notorious for their uncanny ability to stain easily and no matter how hard you may try, there’s no getting around the fact that if you’re going to wear a shirt, its collar will end up looking sullied. To prevent dirt becoming a permanent fixture on your shirt’s collar gently rub your collar with a stain remover block before washing.

4. KEEP YOUR OPTIONS NUMEROUS

All the good intentions in the world will count for little if you don’t have an appropriate number of shirts on rotation in your wardrobe. As a rule of thumb, if you’re wearing a shirt every day at work you should have one for each day of the week. Wear each one only once to increase the lifespan of all.
