Sarah Mikaela: The AW17 Edit

We asked this season's featured blogger for a little extra detail surrounding her AW17 edit

What is your favourite piece from the Reiss AW17 collection and why?

The camel cashmere jumper is beautiful and so versatile. Worn with the velvet wide-leg trousers it’s a half smart, half casual look and it’s something that works with both flats and heels. Alternatively, I’d wear the knit with jeans and a great coat for the weekend.

What inspired the styling of this edit?

I always look to print magazines like Porter and The Gentlewoman for inspiration but I spend so much time on Pinterest and Tumblr as well – there’s just so much material available to us now. Within this edit, I tried to curate a mix of looks that work well together but that also cater to as many calendar invites as possible. When I look at it all together I think it makes for a great winter wardrobe.

Talk us through one evening look and one daytime look and what you love about them.

For day, the all-red red look is my absolute favourite. It’s got so much character but it’s still comfortable and easy to wear which is something that we all want from a winter look, right? The velvet jumpsuit is my top evening piece. It’s so elegant but again, it feels completely effortless. Velvet elevates just about anything and the off-shoulder neckline makes the whole look feel just a little sexy without being too overt.

What does your AW17 diary look like and how do these looks fit into it?

I’ve bookmarked the playsuit for any social event that I’ve got penned in between Christmas and New Year because it feels festive but in quite a sophisticated way. I’d wear the red wide-leg trousers for a Christmas party but I’d style them with a silk shirt instead of the knit. The sock boots are the kind of style that I’d be happy to run around the city in for meetings. They’re a trend focused spin on a black ankle boot which means they’ll go with just about everything but they also feel really relevant.

What one piece of advice would you give someone looking to dress for party season?

Go for something that challenges you aesthetically. The edge of comfort is where you’ll find a new kind of look that might just become your new signature. Try something new before completely disregarding it because you might be surprised.
