5 KEY AW16 UPDATES

01.09.16

The AW16 collection has launched at Reiss and as it starts to filter onto the pages of our site, through the doors of our stores and into our wardrobes, we round up the 5 key things to know about the collection.

THE KEY TREND

The cyclical nature of fashion gives autumn/winter’s most covetable trends a sense of familiarity – think luxe leather, shearling and texture aplenty – but it’s the adoption of tone-on-tone layering that we predict will be the most on-point way to dress this season. Our tip? Choose one colour and commit. Whether it be racing-green, navy or grey, the key is to work it head-to-toe in varying shades. Pile cashmere atop silk and add a touch of leather for a rich clash of texture that will make a sophisticated statement.

THE COLOUR PALETTE

As we make the transition from summer to autumn, dusky pinks remain key to the Reiss aesthetic and this forms a natural bridge to the muted palette of grey, oatmeal, camel, navy and black that go hand-in-hand with autumn/winter. There’s a strong focus on olive green as we move into colder months as well as deep berry hues and a touch of metallic detailing – namely in knitwear.

THE FABRICS IN FOCUS

As temperatures drop, fabrics take a luxurious turn, with leather and shearling remaining key to the Reiss offering and metallics upping the impact of classic wardrobe staples. But it’s faux-fur that we focus on in this report as it makes its way firmly into the forefront of our focus in time for autumn. Imagined in a host of iterations and vivid hues, it fuses high-glamour with contemporary style. A more intricate and perhaps more approachable alternative is the embroidered detailing seen across both ready-to-wear and accessory designs. Opulent and considered all at once, it’s a luxe alternative to print and elevates the most simplistic of wardrobe staples into evening territory.

THE ACCESSORIES TO INVEST IN

No collection is complete without a stand-out accessory offering so it’s anything with a textural element that headlines our edit this season. Velvet heels will add a plush touch to any outfit and when the likes of ruby-red is trimmed with metallic gold-tone leather, opulence becomes all the more approachable. Stoles and hats come in faux fur and bags feature calf-hair panelling so however minimalistic your outfit, bold accessories will tap into the season’s love-affair with a textural final touch.

THE PARTY SEASON INSPIRATION

Studio 54 proves to be the strongest influence when it comes to party season, with metallic yarns, beading and sequins capturing the high-octane glamour of the 1970s and resulting in a look that feels as exclusive as the Studio 54 nightlife. Lace juxtaposes leather and vivid, colourful accents sit proudly against darker tones. Accessories take a statement turn and the overall look is much more impactful than that seen throughout earlier months.
