Trends come and go, but sartorial elegance never goes out of style. This is why every discerning gentleman needs a selection of sharp suits in his collection. For SS13, our formal suiting and occasionwear has taken a classic and refined approach – which is exactly what we’re renowned for.

When it comes to the colour of your formal suiting this spring/summer, you can’t go wrong with shades of blue. From sky hues to electric cobalt, it truly is the season to get the blues.

A luxurious grey three-piece will team perfectly with a soft white shirt, pocket square and tie –ideal for a summer wedding. Peak lapels will also give this look an added dash of debonair style.

For the working week, stride confidently into the boardroom in a sharp navy suit finished off with a crisp white shirt. Notch lapels are a great choice here as they look classic and refined.

We caught up with our Menswear Buying Assistant and suiting guru, Alex McCart, to hear his top tailoring tips. This advice will come in handy when putting your sharp, sartorial look together this summer.

“Make sure your suit fits perfectly,” Alex explained, “this is the most important thing to bear in mind when it comes to great tailoring.”

He then went on to say:

“A longer jacket will create a more classic look where a shorter jacket length will allow for a more contemporary look.  A shorter gentleman should always lean towards a shorter jacket as this will make his legs look longer, whereas it could go both ways with a taller chap.”

As well as giving us the lowdown on how to find the perfect suit, Alex was also sure to explain what to avoid when it comes to tailoring.

“Don’t look awkward in your suit,” he said, “stand at ease and be aware of your posture. Also make sure you don’t close the bottom button of the suit jacket; this can look uptight and distorts the drape of the fabric.”

So whether you’re attending an outdoor wedding this summer or simply looking sharp in the office, the most important factor of your formal attire is confidence. This is one thing that never goes out of style.
