Spring is always the season we can’t wait to get started. Bursting with optimism, positivity and the promise of some sunshine, we have one eye on the weather report and the other on our wardrobes.
So while mercury takes its time to rise, now is the perfect time to invest in the season ahead. It’s the moment to consider pieces which will slot into your existing wardrobe and instantly refresh your favourite looks. For now, and later, these hardworking pieces are the essence of the ‘wardrobe refresh’.
Rather than racing out and buying a slip of a dress which can’t be entertained until at least June, think about what will work imminently, in Feb, March, April, but also won’t look out of place in May, June, July. We’re talking colours, we’re talking prints and we’re talking shapes – with a few wildcards thrown in (for fun).
A leather jacket will work all season long and into the next. Wear it over knits now and sun-dresses later. Make it current by choosing a refreshing colour like watermelon red to instantly perk up the simplest of looks.
Prints are the easiest avenue to reach a new look. Immediately catching the eye, they’re fresh, colourful and have an abstract feel. A shirt will work during the early months, while a skirt will be more appropriate in warmer temperatures. Wear separate pieces alone or try them together for stronger impact.
Shape follows a minimalist aesthetic, with clean lines and minimal fuss. Shift dresses and expertly-cut tailoring have a grown-up feel. Not completely without depth, bold colours, arresting prints or pieces with gentle ruffles or structured frills take things up a notch.
