As a brand with its roots firmly planted in London, we not only have a huge amount of love, respect and admiration for this great city, but it’s also where we call home.

During this SS13 season, our London Lives series homes in on fellow Londoners, and explores their lives and style within the capital.

Not only a moment of reflection, but also an opportunity to see London through fresh eyes, our first point of view comes courtesy of Parisian designer, Marie Dessuant, who after moving to London a little over a year ago offers a new perspective on our city.

Marie lives in Peckham, south London and is a product designer working for furniture company, Another Country, which takes her to the north west of the capital every day. Living and working within these creative corners is a constant inspiration for Marie, a relative newcomer to the city.

“I love to live and work in London because it is a very dynamic city and you can feel its identity,” says Marie, “visually it is really mixed between industrial space and palaces as well – it’s a big contrast, “ she continues.

As a designer, environment has an effect on work, but how about style?

“My agenda for the day will influence the way I dress. If I have an important presentation I will wear something elegant to feel more self-confident,” explains Marie, “and if I’m setting up an exhibition I will wear something really, really comfortable and of course, for the night I will wear something more chic.”

So how does a Parisian girl find London style? “I think London style is full of freedom. People dare to wear crazy items together, which is really interesting for me, as it is part of the strength of British culture,” muses Marie.

An attitude which Marie has taken on, she explains,“where in France I feel people might run from it, me, I like to try more colourful clothes.” So despite an understated French aesthetic, there are elements of London style shaping her look.

And when asked if she’s adopted any other London style traits for herself, “yes, I have. I always carry an umbrella and cardigan with me!”

So there we have it, a Parisian girl romanced by the freedom, colour and creativity of our city.
