ACCESSORISE ALL AREAS
The simplest styling trick is to play with your accessories – just add a belt and clutch a bag.
An otherwise girly lace dress gets a tomboy vibe the minute you pull on a leather biker.
The LBD needn’t lack depth when it’s an eclectic blend of fabrics with peek-a-boo lace.
In a season where separates reign supreme it’s very easy to label a beautiful dress as a one trick pony – but you’d be wrong to do so.
Not traditionally considered a versatile garment, dresses serve their purpose wonderfully, but rarely do we think outside of the box when it comes to styling them. This season however, our stylists show us how you can transform your dress with just a little creative license.
From simple styling tricks to more radical alterations, it’s a fun way to get more wear out of that little dress that is usually only worn in one way.
Try introducing a long-sleeved jersey under a leather dress or a turtle neck top under a v-front shift. By slipping on these extra layers, you totally change the appeal of the dress, as well as keep warm in the early months of spring.
Or take on subtle twists, which still have a strong impact, like adding a skinny belt to nip the waist and add a pop of colour or print to your dress, or being bold with your choice of outerwear and using it as the focal point of your outfit.
When it comes to shoes, why not forgo the usual heels and pop on a pair of ankle socks with some mannish brogues? Or simple courts if you don’t want to lose the femininity completely.
Of course, you can totally re-think your dress, depending on its style. Our most dramatic transformation comes in the form of our Abbeville leather shirt dress being worn open, as a jacket, over jeans and a tee – full marks for creativity.
So even though a beautiful spring dress has enough strength to stand alone, it’s useful to be reminded every now and then that its sartorial possibilities can be really quite endless.
