With its impressive archive of fashion from over 200 years, this fifth birthday party will be a much more old-fashioned affair than most. Takes place on Sunday 11th of May.

The Palomar Restaurant

THE PALOMAR RESTAURANT

Offering culinary respite from the deluge of high-end comfort food restaurants which have flooded London in the past few years, The Palomar Restaurant (which is to open on Soho’s Rupert Street later this month) positions itself as an eatery which bucks this trend. Teaming with chefs from Jerusalem’s Machneyuda restaurant, the venture will serve dishes which range from Middle-Eastern style salad to Yemeni fare, risotto and handmade pasta. Run of the mill this is certainly not. Opens Monday May 19th.

34 Rupert Street, London, W1D 6DN. Closest tube: Piccadilly Circus.

Advanced Style Curzon Cinema

ADVANCED STYLE AT CURZON CINEMA

Inspired by the unconventional yet wildly popular fashion blog of the same name, Advanced Style is a new documentary feature which focuses its gaze on the concepts of ageing and fashion. A special screening of the film will take place this month followed by a live Q&A with the film’s director Lina Plioplyte, the blog’s creator Ari Seth Cohen and some of the film’s fashionable stars. Proving that style really does have no age, the film is a refreshing and inspiring insight in to personal style. Screens on Tuesday 6th of May.

38 Curzon Street, London, W1J 7TY. Closest tube: Green Park.

V&A Wedding Dresses 1775-2014

WEDDING DRESSES 1775-2014

Wedding season is upon us, so fittingly this month sees the opening of a new exhibition at the V&A charting a history of the all-important white dress. Wedding Dresses 1775-2014 not only explores the wedding dress in all of its varied (and colourful) guises but also the attire worn by bridesmaids, grooms and pageboys. Documenting everything from the emergence of white as the go-to colour for the wedding dress to the increasing role of celebrity wedding culture, Wedding Dresses 1775-2014 combines all the frivolity of wedding fashion with fascinating historical fact.

Cromwell Road, London SW7 2RL. Closest tube: South Kensington.
