A SUIT THAT FITS

It’s certainly true that there’s a universality to tailoring. No matter what your body type or height, by virtue of its very nature tailoring should be regarded as something which fits around your own specifications rather than the other way around.

The key to selecting the perfect suit is all in the cut, rather than the stylistic details. Therefore before tending to the lapels or button count, instead look to a classic, modern or slim-fit cut.

THE PERFECT SHIRT

It may not be the sartorial star of the show, but don’t overlook the importance of the perfect shirt. While it’s easy to get caught up in the colour or pattern, the finer details of a shirt should be your starting point when shopping. For example, a slim-fit shirt is an essential for wearing with a slim-fit suit, whereas a classic shirt is more apt for wearing beneath a modern or classic suit jacket. Once you’ve selected the correct cut of shirt, tend to your aesthetic needs such as the collar style or texture of the fabric.

THE FINISHING TOUCH

With their uncanny ability to make or break a tailored ensemble, although accessories may be the very last of your considerations choose wisely to ensure that they offer the perfect sartorial full stop. Firstly, don’t be tempted to over-accessorise, simplicity is key, and if your tailoring has been selected correctly your suit should speak for itself.

So, if you wear both a tie a pocket square ensure the latter is as plain as is possible and only slightly visible. Eschewing neckwear altogether? A more adventurous pocket square is apt.
